Employee Spotlight

Tiffany Sarvay

Employee: Tiffany Sarvay

Position: Sales Development Representative

Hi all! While I’m used to talking (especially about Pearson!), I’m not one to talk about myself much, so bear with me.

My name is Tiffany and I started at Pearson on February 28th of this year as a Sales Development Rep for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast (shutout to my amazing Regional Sales Managers, Matt Reed and Jonathan Santoro!) Regions. Even though I work remote out of my home office in Richmond, Virginia, I am never alone on the job, as my 3 dogs and cat keep me company throughout the day. Not to mention, I have a great team and manager, Susann Roeder, that are always available on Teams, helping me stay connected. I came to Pearson after working in Inside Sales for 6 years, having previously sold pet products, medical equipment and premium insulated drinkware (Swig Life, a local RVA company). I love that at Pearson, I’ve really been given the perfect balance of guidance and freedom to get back to the basis of sales- prospecting, learning the company and products, and how to best communicate with customers.

When not working, my favorite thing to do is go to the beach. I just love the sound of the waves and having the sand between my toes! My favorite beach is the Outer Banks in North Carolina, because of how quiet and relaxing it is. However, I’ve also been lucky enough to enjoy the beaches of Costa Rica (pictured), Mexico (Cozumel, Cancun and Cabo San Lucas), St. Marteen, and Jamaica. My goal is to eventually go to as many of the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean ocean and I’ll get to check a few more off my list when I go on a cruise this Christmas to Belize and Grand Cayman.

Thank you for sharing, Tiffany!

What To Do and What Not To Do If You Smell Gas

safety

We want to ensure that any potential gas leak is handled safely and swiftly.

Here's what you should DO if you smell gas:

 • DO leave the home, building, or area of the suspected leak. Get to a safe area as quickly as possible.
• After leaving your home, DO call the 24-hour emergency number for your local emergency response team.
• DO call 911 to notify police and fire officials.
• DO warn others to stay out of the area.
• DO stay nearby until a gas company representative arrives, or until you've told the company where you can     be reached.

What NOT to do if you smell gas:

It is important to take the proper steps if you smell gas. Below is a list of things you should NOT do if you suspect a gas leak.
• DO NOT enter the premises if you notice a strong gas odor or if there is other evidence of a natural gas leak.
• DO NOT smoke, or make a spark or flame.
• DO NOT turn on any electrical switches, appliances or lights as an electrical charge could create a spark.
• DO NOT raise or lower the windows or use any phone inside your home.
• DO NOT open your garage door.

After leaving your home, call the 24-hour emergency number for your local emergency response team.  Using your sense of sight, smell, and sound can help you recognize a suspected leak

More about gas leaks:

Natural gas is a safe, reliable fuel. However, it is extremely important to follow safe practices when dealing with natural gas, just like any energy source. There are circumstances in which natural gas can be hazardous. It is important that the general public, residents along pipeline rights of way, and public officials aid in the protection of all pipelines. It is of the utmost importance that excavation around our pipelines be monitored by responsible personnel. If there is reason to suspect that unmonitored excavation is occurring along a right of way, you should notify your local "Dig With Care" team. It is imperative that ‘One Call’ procedures be followed by anyone doing any type of excavation.

Although rare, natural gas leaks do occur and you should always be prepared. Natural gas can be hazardous, and if released, it may ignite, possibly explode, or can cause asphyxiation. These hazards may be created by uncontrolled escaping gas caused by:

• Rupturing, nicking, or puncturing a pipeline
• Extreme loading of materials over buried facilities
• Water main breaks
• Heavy ice on outside meters
• Collapsed buildings that break or damage gas pipelines
• Fire or explosion near or directly involving a pipeline facility
• Equipment failure
• Human error
• Natural events (flood, earthquake, tornado)

hostess

Emporia, KS.

Hostess is an American original. You may even enjoy one (or a couple) of their CupCakes, Twinkies, or Ding Dongs at your local BBQ this summer! Pearson recently shipped three RTL robotic case packers to Hostess in Emporia, KS. These robotic top loaders pack Twinkies into RSC cases. The first robotic top loading cell has already been commissioned and is running flawlessly. The other two robot cells will be commissioned in August. We are so happy to be part of such a legendary company that has been in business for over a century!

Pearson Packaging, PMMI Fund Donation to Saint George's School Robotics Program

                                                              blog

Support of local educational institutions like Saint George’s continues to bring visibility to STEM programs, real-world applications and engages our youth in considering careers within the field.

The Saint George’s program supports comprehensive student engagement beginning in 3rd grade with a Lego Robotics League, transitioning into a middle school First Tech Challenge, and culminating in Team 1595 of the high school FIRST Robotics Challenge. With the support of the financial donations, the school and students have become quite accomplished in robotics. They have progressed to the Einstein Round at the World Championships in 2017. This year, following two years of pandemic related competition cancellations, the team placed 5th at the Pacific Northwest District Championships, nearly making it again to the World Championships.

Machelle Johnson, Director of Human Resources at Pearson Packaging Systems shares, “It is inspiring to see the excitement when the robotics class and team visits the Pearson facility.” She continues to explain, “They begin to envision a future in our industry. Pearson and Saint George’s School are grateful for the commitment of PMMI  to continue to invest in our own future workforce through ongoing development of these programs and relationships.”

Wedding

                                              stanislaw

Steve and Stephanie Stanislaw

When Steve first moved to Denver, his uncle David encouraged him to meet Stephanie, the daughter of his longtime friends.  Steve didn't take his uncle's advice at the time...yet a year later they remarkably matched on a dating site.  Steve didn't put two and two together until he realized he and Stephanie had a mutual friend on Facebook.  David's response when Steve told his uncle it was Stephanie he was taking out-  "She's from a great family. Don't mess this up!"  Steve finally took his uncle's advice the second time around.  After their first date that lasted five hours, things took off quickly.  An international trip with Stephanie's family within the first few months, a sweet puppy Zoe within the first year, a house within the first two years, and here they are ready to take on their next chapter. Steve and Stephanie were married on May 29th in Rocky Mountain National Park (Estes Park, Colorado). Again, another beautiful day and a exquisite backdrop for a wedding!  Congratulations!

Did You Know?

A giant Pacific Octopus can lay between 120,000 and 400,000 eggs (once in her short lifetime), which are coated in chorion (membrane surrounding an embryo) and attached to a hard surface by the mother.  She intensely cares for it by blowing water over it and grooms it to remove algae and other growths.  The mother stays close to her spawn, never leaving to feed, leading to her death soon after the young have hatched.  The female's death is the result of starvation, as she subsists on her own body fats during this period of approximately 6 months.
