Employee Spotlight
Employee: Steve Cromer
Position: Project Manager
Hello, my name is Steve Cromer and I have been at Pearson for 25 years now. Dora and I have been married for 28 years, with 2 kids and 2 granddaughters 4 and 2. My current position is Sr. Project Manager. I started out in assembly as one of the first hired on electro-mechanical technicians. Before then there were mechanical guys or electrical guys, and a handful being cross trained for both. The shop floor smelled and sounded much different than today; hot cutting fluid, steel-it paint fumes, and the occasional smoke rising from a Marlboro at a temporary resting spot on some frame tube. The sound of tap guns and drills was constant, as was the Breakfast Boys every morning, and classic rock in the afternoon. My first service road trip was to Arnie’s Bagels in Nebraska, nothing like a fresh right out of the oven bagel, the factory was nice and I thought this road work is great. But as I got more seasoned, found that most plants I went to were not M&Ms and fresh baked goods, but protein processing plants and gypsum products, which in the hot humid Midwest summer was not my favorite smell. Next, from Assembly to Continuous Improvement & Kaizen events, to C.I. Manager, where I was able to work with / within just about every department in the company, and then finally on to PM. When we lived in town camping / going to the lake was our thing, now we live in the middle of 20 wooded acres, & camp all the time: turn off the shop and house lights, and start up the firepit, make smores, and watch the stars. Now our favorite thing is “Road Trip!” One of the best ones was up to the Columbian Ice Fields in Canada to hike around on a glacier. To get on the glacier, your ride is a school bus meets monster truck. It gets you up and over the lateral moraine and onto the glacier. What a ride! The Canadian Rockies were amazing and hiking on top of a ~1000+ ft. thick chunk of ice was even more so. Most of the people in that area were from all over the world and worked only to support their hiking/skiing habits. Maybe one day Dora and I will do the same.
