Meet Our Summer Interns!
Maureen Tolloti
Maureen Tolloti is a Supply Chain Intern this summer. She is a rising senior at Gonzaga University. Her major is Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Operations & Supply Chain Management. Although she is a double concentration, she is interested in focusing her career on supply chain. She chose supply chain as one of her areas of study because her older brother is a Merchant Marine and has a degree in Maritime Logistics & Security. He expressed that there is a great need for help in this field. This encouraged Maureen to consider working in supply chain. She is also studying finance because she believes that having the ability to understand financial statements is important for the functioning of a company.
Maureen selected Pearson for her internship because she wants to focus her career on machine manufacturing. Maureen enjoys the fast pace of supply chain manufacturing. She enjoys working for smaller companies that have potential to grow. Maureen also decided to work for Pearson because she enjoys living in Spokane.
Maureen is from Canton, Ohio. She enjoys figure skating, skiing, reading, and going to Gonzaga Basketball games. She also has a younger brother, is an avid Cleveland sports fan, and her favorite color is pink.
Brett Carson
My name is Brett Carson, and I am currently interning at Pearson in the Project Management department. I am 19 years old and going to be a sophomore at Arizona State University next year. I chose project management as my focus for this year because I thought it would be a perfect place to start. Since I am only a sophomore, I don't know exactly what I want to do yet, but I figured project management would give me an introduction to most aspects of the business. I am excited to be at Pearson and learn from everyone here, I am also very excited that I get to escape the heat of the Arizona summer. Back home I have one cat and one dog that get along very well. If I am not working, I love to go to the gym with my friends and lift. We all like to play sports, get outdoors and explore nature as much as we can. I also love to watch movies in my free time. Some of my favorite movies are the ones that are directed by Christopher Nolan, such as Inception, Interstellar, etc. I love how beautiful his movies are and how much they make you think. I also hope to do some exploring in the Spokane area these next couple months, so if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know!
Tanner Short
I’m Tanner, and I’m a Controls Engineer Intern mainly focused on building and controlling virtual emulations of our robot cells. I chose controls because I really enjoy electronics and programming. I’ve also been doing robotics since 4th grade and have always loved it, so it’s cool to play with them at work!
I grew up in Post Falls and worked in commercial renovation in downtown Spokane during high school. I am currently a Mechanical Engineering MS student at the University of Utah graduating this December with an emphasis in Robotics and Controls. My wife, Molly, is also from Spokane, and we have a 3-year-old son and 18-month-old daughter. I enjoy pretty much any sport, but my favorites are soccer, basketball, and tennis. I love the outdoors and pretty much anything that can be done outside, but I also enjoy time inside with movies and Nintendo games (mostly Legend of Zelda).
I chose Pearson first and foremost because my wife and I wanted to move back to the area. I knew about Pearson previously, and after taking a deeper look at Pearson’s opportunities with robotics and virtual emulation, I knew this would be a good opportunity for me. Since being here, I’ve also come to enjoy the company culture.
Ava Duke-Martin
I am an honors student at the University of Colorado, Boulder in the Leeds Business School. Currently, I am going into my junior year, majoring in Finance with a certificate in social responsibility and ethics. Growing up, I always loved math, which led me to finance and accounting. Additionally, I have always wanted the work I do to be done in the most ethical and socially responsible manner. The coupling of my finance major and the certificate will allow me to do so. During my time here, I have gotten the opportunity to work with the accounting team, which has been incredibly rewarding. I have really enjoyed getting to expand and solidify my accounting knowledge and gaining a better understanding of the inner workings of the company. Pearson is such a unique company, and getting to understand the nuances has broadened my understanding in many different areas.
At home, I have two Labradors, Bode and Griffin, a horse, and a younger brother who is going into his freshman year of college in Boston. My dad is an organizational behavior consultant, and my mom serves on a judicial review board In Portland. Growing up, I lived in Denver and Portland. In high school, I also spent a semester living in Switzerland. During my free time I enjoy spending time outside hiking and skiing. I also spend my time taking care of my house plants, which I somehow have over 30 of and still feel as though it is not enough. Since moving here, I also have been enjoying getting to explore Spokane, as I have not spent much time here.
Alissa Empert
My name is Allissa, I am currently studying Electrical Engineering at Eastern Washington University. My passion for problem solving, critical thinking, and embracing cutting-edge technology led me to choose this field of study. Currently, I am controls intern here at Pearson, where I am gaining valuable hands-on experience with HMIs, PLCs, and various machinery that I hadn't encountered before. Working alongside talented individuals has been a stroke of luck, as I continuously learn and grow from their experiences. While I still have over a year remaining at Eastern, I am actively working towards my goal of creating and supporting environmentally friendly alternatives and solutions. As I gain more experience, I am confident that my vision of making a positive impact will become clearer, enabling me to contribute effectively to this cause.
When I'm not studying or working, I find joy in various activities. I have a love for hiking, as it allows me to connect with nature. Traveling is another passion of mine. Last year, I was fortunate enough to go to Iceland with one of my closest friends. During our week-long trip, we hiked up glaciers, swam in the beautiful Blue Lagoon, and explored the black sand beaches. However, no matter how thrilling my experiences may be, nothing compares to the simple joy of coming home to my two adorable cats, Charlie and Darwin. With their wild personalities, they bring endless entertainment and warmth to my life.
Overall, I am looking forward to getting acquainted with everyone and continuing my internship journey. I am immensely grateful for the support I have already received, which continues to motivate me towards reaching my goals.
